“Design ni dukaan” colloquially means a shop for design. We are a multidisciplinary studio based in Ahmedabad; focusing on the concept of ‘design’ in totality and without distinction. This encompasses scales from architecture to commercial furniture. It is a small studio where likeminded people and thoughts converge from which evolves a singularity; design.
The talk will include the work philosophy of the studio, the inception of it and how it has evolved with time. It will address the issue of the current scenario of “trend driven design” and the need for a base, a set of principles to guide designers.
The need for better working environments and a community-based studio, where a lot of work is produced and yet it is a celebration and not a ‘job’.
The discourse will speak about how art, literature, music, movies etc are an integral part of building a base and how seamlessly the principles derived could be applied to design/art of any scale.
