For the past 12 years, the people of Surat have grooved on the VIBE of Nikhil Dhingra. This 32 year old choreographer has quite successfully been running Vibe dancing studio in the city for such a long period of time. He was born in Haryana and raised in Surat. Nikhil had keen passion towards dancing and creativity within dance from school time itself. So from the very beginning, he choreographed all those performances for the school group. It was this small acts of creativity that later turned into a blazing passion for dance.
Nikhil comes from traditionally into business family, both his father and elder brother are into textiles. His father insisted that Nikhil enter textiles while pursuing degree here in Surat and everyone thought he would, but Nikhil had other plans. He had the desire to prove to his father that he could create his own identity. So Nikhil left for Pune to do his graduation against his father’s wishes and then against his wishes started the dancing studio at the mere age of 20. Back then dancing wasn’t an appropriate choice for a career, but he still took the risk of jumping into the unknown just for the sake of his passion. He rented a studio and started teaching, the money coming from a bank loan. His father wasn’t happy with him because of his insistence on pursuing the art, and he received a cold shoulder for a year. Gradually with 16-20 hours of working everyday, Nikhil created this world of his own.
Even today Nikhil wakes up at 6 in the morning and works from 7am to 11pm. He runs about 10-12 batches and even takes up choreographies for weddings and events. He provides jobs to freelancers, directs them and even guides them. Even after reaching this level Nikhil still works with the same ardent hard work and aspires to keep working till his work reflects his creativity rather than setting an age barrier. He believes in working hard and smart. And his only motto is ‘to never stop working, because that is the worst thing a person can do to their own self’.
